In his inaugural address, Prof. Singh delivered an insightful analogy, stating that learning to swim by reading a book is fundamentally different from actually immersing oneself in water and experiencing the process. He used this analogy to underscore the importance of experiential learning in the legal profession, asserting that the ability to practice law is nurtured not only through theoretical study but through real-world application, such as mooting. His words inspired the participants to embrace practical learning as an essential aspect of their legal education.
Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, Vice- Chancellor, HPNLU, Shimla highlighted the shifting landscape of legal education in her address. Prof. Saxena pointed out that while traditional lecture-based pedagogy dominated legal education for decades, the introduction of mooting as a core component has significantly expanded and enriched the educational experience. She emphasized that clinical education and experiential learning, represented by moots and other practical exercises, are now central to the curriculum, offering students invaluable opportunities to refine their skills in advocacy, research, and critical thinking.
The vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) S.S. Jaswal, Registrar of HPNLU, who expressed gratitude to the distinguished speakers, participants, faculty members, knowledge and media partners of the event, for their support in making the event possible. He also congratulated the Moot Court Committee for their excellent organizational efforts in ensuring the success of this significant competition.
