Today Dr. Atul Verma, IPS, assumed the charge of Director General of Police, Himachal Pradesh.
Dr Atul Verma, a 1991-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, was appointed the new director general of police (DGP) of Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday. Verma was serving as the director general (CID).
Verma’s appointment orders were issued by Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena on Wednesday. Sources said that the orders were issued after obtaining permission from the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Sanjay Kundu, the former DGP of Himachal Pradesh, retired on Tuesday after serving 35 years in the police service.
In terms of seniority, IPS Atul Verma ranks fourth after IPS officers Tapan Kumar Deka from the 1988 batch, S R Ojha from the 1989 batch, and Shyam Bhagat Negi from the 1990 batch. Deka and Negi are currently on central deputation while Ojha is the director general (prisons).
He is an IPS Officer of 1991 batch previously serving as Director General, State CID, H.P.
