IBEX NEWS,Shimla The Youth Red Cross Society (YRC) of Himachal Pradesh National Law University, Shimla, under the aegis of Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, Vice-Chancellor, HPNLU, hosted the Model United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Conference 2025, centered on the theme: “Addressing Emerging Non-Scheduled Synthetic Drugs and Implementing Alternatives to Conviction or Punishment,” in alignment with the broader campaign, “Chase Dreams, Not Drugs.”

The inaugural session was graced by eminent dignitaries, including Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of HPNLU; Dr. Amit Sachdeva, Assistant Professor, Department of Community Medicine, Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital, Shimla; and Prof. (Dr.) S.S. Jaswal, Registrar of HPNLU. Their insightful addresses emphasized the significance of multilateral cooperation, community-based rehabilitation models, and youth-led policy innovation in combating the transnational drug crisis.

The conference, designed to replicate the procedural decorum and diplomatic engagement of the United Nations, convened a distinguished gathering of student delegates from across the academic spectrum. The objective was to stimulate critical policy discourse and propose innovative, evidence-based solutions to the pressing global issue of synthetic drug proliferation.

Over the course of the conference, delegates engaged in rigorous deliberations on a wide range of policy issues: from the rise in synthetic drug use and trafficking networks to socioeconomic consequences and rehabilitative jurisprudence. The session culminated in the ratification of a Resolution on Global Drug Policy Reform, calling for substantial investment in preventive education and rehabilitation infrastructure,enhanced mechanisms for international intelligence cooperation, and youth-led advocacy and community outreach initiatives. The event was organized by Dr. Rohit Sharma, Faculty Coordinator, YRC, Mr. Romil Chawla, President YRC, and members of the YRC, HPNLU. 

The event concluded with a formal awards ceremony recognizing delegates who demonstrated outstanding diplomatic acumen, research depth, and policy articulation. The Model UNODC 2025 reaffirmed the Youth Red Cross Society, HPNLU’s unwavering commitment to fostering academic inquiry and global awareness in tackling real-world challenges.
