The 10th International Film Festival of Shimla is set to begin on August 16, 2024, kicking off three days of cinematic brilliance and cultural exchange organised under the aegis of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Govt. of India, Department of Language & Culture, Govt of Himachal Pradesh and Himalayan Velocity in Gaiety Heritage Cultural Complex, Shimla. This highly anticipated event scheduled to be held from 16th -18th August, 2024 will bring together films from 27 countries and 22 states, providing a platform for a diverse range of voices and storytelling traditions. The festival promises an enriching experience for film enthusiasts, industry professionals, and cultural aficionados alike.
This year’s festival features an impressive array of films produced by some of the most esteemed organizations in the film industry. Audiences will have the chance to explore a wide spectrum of narratives through films presented by the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Bitchitrra Collective, and the Indian Documentary Producers Association (IDPA). Each of these contributors has curated a selection of films that reflect their unique perspectives and contributions to the world of cinema.
The festival will showcase an eclectic mix of films from 27 countries, offering a rich tapestry of international cinema. Alongside these global entries, 20 states will present regional films, celebrating local filmmaking traditions and stories that capture the essence of diverse cultures within the country.
In a special tribute to mark the centenary year of two of Indian cinema’s most revered figures, Raj Kapoor and Dev Anand, the festival will feature a dedicated exhibition. This tribute will celebrate the extraordinary careers and lasting impact of these cinematic icons, highlighting their contributions to the industry and their enduring legacy. Attendees will have the opportunity to delve into their storied careers through an engaging display of memorabilia, clips, and retrospectives.
The festival will also offer a series of masterclasses led by some of the film industry’s most respected experts. These sessions are designed to provide aspiring filmmakers, students, and film enthusiasts with valuable insights into various aspects of filmmaking. The masterclasses will cover a range of topics, including directing, screenwriting, cinematography, and editing, offering a comprehensive learning experience for attendees.
One of the highlights of these educational opportunities will be an interactive session with acclaimed actress Seema Biswas. Known for her powerful performances and contributions to both Indian cinema, Biswas will share her experiences and insights in a session that promises to be both inspiring and informative. The festival will present “Bachpan,” a special section dedicated to children’s cinema. The specially curated selection of films for children will provide entertaining and educational content designed to captivate and inspire the younger generation.
