SJVN has been conferred with First Prize in the prestigious Swachhta Pakhwada Award 2023 by Ministry of Power, Govt. of India. Sh. N L Sharma received the prize from Union Power Secretary Sh. Pankaj Agarwal today in a ceremony at New Delhi.

Nand Lal Sharma, Chairman & Managing Director, SJVN informed that SJVN has been conferred with First Prize in the prestigious Swachhta Pakhwada Award 2023 by Ministry of Power, Govt. of India. N L Sharma received the prize from Union Power Secretary Pankaj Agarwal today in a ceremony at New Delhi. On this occasion, Geeta Kapur, Director (Personnel), SJVN was also present.

Nand Lal Sharma apprised that the Swachhta Pakhwada Awards are conferred by Ministry of Power to honour the Power PSUs for their exemplary performance during observance of Swachhta Pakhwada from 16th to 31st May every year. The PSUs are evaluated on number of parameters for the initiatives undertaken to create awareness for Swachh Bharat Abhiyan amongst masses. SJVN has bagged first prize while second and third prizes have been awarded to PGCIL & PFC respectively. Last year also, SJVN has won the first prize.

N L Sharma said “It is a great honour for SJVN that it has been awarded first prize for two consecutive years. Every year we formulate Swachhta Pakhwada Action Plan to undertake various activities at all our project locations & offices across India. We work meticulously to implement these initiatives and spread the message of Swachhta.”

Action Plan of this year included plantation drives, awareness camps, cleanliness drives, special drives to strengthen use of eco-friendly material,installation of solid waste disposal machines and dustbins in public places, awareness sessions on menstrual hygiene and installation of sanitary pad incinerators in Govt. educational institutions for Girls, distribution of sanitization & personal hygiene materials in local communities etc. 

Undertaking a novel initiative, SJVN in collaboration with Municipal Corporation Shimla and Red Cross Society launched an Empty Milk Pouch Collection Scheme in all Municipal Wards of Shimla, Municipal Wards around SJVN Projects in Himachal Pradesh and Project Associated Panchayats.  In order to contribute towards public sensitization, awareness camps for promoting segregation of waste, vermi-composting, reuse of waste water for agriculture etc. were also organized.
