Two day International Conference being organized by the Department of Chemistry Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla on “Recent Advances in Fundamental and Chemical Sciences” was concluded on 17th May, 2025. In the natural session Chief Guest Prof. S.P. Bansal, Vice Chancellor of HPU; Guest of Honour Prof. Rajinder Verma Pro Vice Chancellor of HPU, Dean, Faculty of Physical Sciences Prof. Manu Sood, and all national and international speakers and scholars were present in inaugural session. Dr. Sandeep Chauhan Chairman of the department told that in this conference around 80 abstracts were received and different sessions on various thematic areas were conducted during two days of the conference.

Prof. S.P. Bansal, Vice Chancellor, inaugurated the conference on 16th May and in his inaugural address Prof. Bansal congratulated the faculty, students and staff of the Chemistry Department for organizing this international conference. Prof. Bansal further emphasized on interdisciplinary and collaborative research and also told that funding agencies are also looking for interdisciplinary and collaborative research projects for funding. Prof. Bansal further assured that the University is working on a policy of increasing seed money for researchers to support them for their research work. He appreciated the Department of Chemistry for their accomplishments in research. Vice Chancellor further highlighted that Himachal Pradesh University recently collaborated with IIT Ropar for ANRF PAIR scheme and got 10 crore research grants. HPU has also submitted Sophisticated Analytical & Technical Help Institute (SATHI) proposal to DST in collaboration with IIT Ropar. Prof. Bansal further emphasized that the scientific community of India is doing great and competing well globally in terms of publications and impact of research work. Prof. Bansal highlighted the recent innovations carried out in the fields of science, health, agriculture and energy. During the first day, Prof. Kamaljit (Professor of Chemistry, GNDU), Prof. Venkata Krishnan from IIT Mandi, Prof. Paramjit Kaur from GNDU, and Dr. Pankaj Bharmoria from the Institute of Material Sciences, Barcelona, Spain, delivered the keynote and invited talks. The inaugural session ended with a vote of thanks proposed by Prof. Baljit Singh.
The cultural night held in the evening on 16th May and was a vibrant celebration of diverse traditions, showcasing a beautiful blend of music, dance. The evening featured a stunning performance of Bhangra, a lively and energetic Punjabi dance, which brought a burst of enthusiasm to the gathering. Following this, the audience was treated to the graceful Himachali Natti, a traditional folk dance from the Himachal Pradesh region, highlighting the elegance and cultural richness of the state. One of the highlights of the evening was the soulful Ghazals performance by Dr. Hemraj Chandel. Known for his expressive voice and emotional delivery, Dr. Chandel captivated the audience with his rendition of this classical form of Urdu poetry, offering a serene and reflective end to the cultural festivities.
During 2nd day of the conference, Prof. Subhash from Mexico (virtual mode), Dr. Upendra Sharma (Principal Scientist) from CSIR-IHBT Palampur, Prof. Pawan Kumar Sharma Esteemed Pro Vice Chancellor from CU Haryana and Prof. Atul Khanna (HOD Physics Department) from GNDU Amritsar delivered their invited talks.
The valedictory session of the international conference was a memorable and significant occasion, gracefully conducted by warmly welcoming the esteemed dignitaries attending the session by Dr. Sandeep Chauhan, the Head of Department and convener of the conference. The chief guest, Prof. B.K. Shivram, Dean of Studies at Himachal Pradesh University, was acknowledged for his remarkable contributions to education and research. In his address Prof. Verma appreciated the efforts of Department of Chemistry to organize such an event on a very important theme and insisted on transdisciplinary and interdisciplinary research. Alongside him, the Guest of Honour, Prof. J.S. Dhiman, Dean of Planning and Teachers’ Matters at Himachal Pradesh University, was also recognized for his continued efforts in academic administration and planning. Prof Dhiman agreed to support Chemistry Department in creating a high profile centralized instrumentation facility. Prof. Manu Sood, Dean of the Faculty of Physical Sciences at Himachal Pradesh University, was also present during Valedictory ceremony and shared his expertise with the august gathering. Prof. Pawan Kumar Sharma, Pro Vice-Chancellor at the Central University of Haryana also graced the occasion.
The highlight of the session was the award ceremony where the winners of the oral and poster presentations were recognized for their outstanding contributions to the conference. The distinguished dignitaries presented the awards, acknowledging the hard work and dedication of the participants. The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Ramesh Thakur, expressing gratitude to all the guests, participants and organizers who made the conference a resounding success. His closing remarks left a lasting impression, reflecting the collaborative spirit of the event.
