In a significant move to enhance the state’s tourism sector, the Himachal Pradesh Government has decided to hand over the operation and maintenance of 14 loss-making units of the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) to private operators on an Operation and Maintenance (O&M) basis. Units to be Privatized
The 14 units slated for privatization include some of the most iconic tourist destinations in Himachal Pradesh, such as Hotel Hill Top in Swarghat, Hotel Lakeview in Bilaspur, and Hotel Chanshal in Rohru. Other units include Wayside Amenity in Bhararighat, Hotel Manali Inn in Chindi, and Tourist Inn in Rajgarh.
Implementation Timeline
The Managing Director of HPTDC has been directed to implement the decision within three months. The Special Secretary (Tourism & Civil Aviation) to the Government of Himachal Pradesh, Vijay Kumar, has requested the MD to take necessary action and furnish an action taken report to his office.
Rationale Behind the Decision
The decision to privatize these units was taken after the Cabinet Meeting held on June 28, 2025, where it was decided that the Board of Directors (BoD) of HPTDC would give certain units of HPTDC on Operation & Maintenance basis to improve the financial position of the Corporation and provide better facilities to tourists.
