Mandi, Himachal Pradesh – In a remarkable humanitarian initiative, the Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) Himachal Chapter, under the leadership of Chairman Architect Nand Lal Chandel, undertook two visits to the disaster-affected Seraj region.
During the first visit, the team of architects inspected the disaster-hit areas and assessed the extent of the damage.On their second visit, they distributed ₹8.5 lakh in relief assistance to 56 affected families.
In addition to financial support, the IIA Himachal Chapter made a significant announcement:
Free housing designs will be provided to all affected families to help them rebuild safe and sustainable homes.Architects will also extend community shelter planning and design services at no cost.

The affected families expressed heartfelt gratitude to the architects of Himachal Pradesh for their timely and sensitive support.
Speaking on the occasion, Architect Nand Lal Chandel, Chairman of IIA Himachal Chapter, said:
“We believe that disaster-affected people need not only financial assistance but also professional and technical guidance to rebuild safe and resilient homes. The IIA Himachal Chapter remains committed to supporting such humanitarian initiatives in the future as well.”
Meanwhile, in Thunag (Seraj Assembly Constituency, Mandi District), a total of ₹15 lakh in relief was distributed among 56 families who had recently lost their homes due to the disaster. Out of this, ₹8.5 lakh came from the IIA Himachal Chapter, representing architects across Himachal Pradesh, while the remaining contribution was made by the 1981–84 alumni batch of Polytechnic College Sundernagar.
